That's why VW sold an adapter to make it a sensible size. Beetles had something similar, with a big screw eye that went in there with some seat belts I've seen. Maybe the 20 tpi thread is a good imitation of 1.25 mm, which is why we don't all have to replace the mounting points when fitting new belts. Dave.
