Check the fuel pump relay switch. My '71 FB had similar problems with erratic starting until diagnosed a bad relay switch. The next time you attempt to start your car, first listen for a very faint click, followed by the hum of the fuel pump, then the bubbling sound of fuel filling the lines. Once this sequence finishes, crank her up. Before I replaced the bad relay switch, I sometimes sat for a half hour waiting desperately for the sweet click of the switch. A light tap on the relay switch (located under the dash against the wall near the steering column, it's a grey square box about the size of a 9V battery) might coax it into opening for you. You will eventually have to replace it. I think I paid $5.95 plus tax for mine. Hope this helps.
