Good idea - you probably need a microscope with TV camera and a video capture set up for stills (is there such a thingn+Ö¥, there's an advantage in having the parts numbers in text form; more compact and searchable. Big Al has the first section of the Type 3 parts book on his site, but I don't think he has done much of the actual parts sections yet. OCR on the parts details and a .gif of the parts pictures would be ideal for file size and searching for the parts by name and number, but my experience of OCR is that it can be a bit haphazard, and checking all the numbers have scanned in OK is a big task. There are about 80 picture pages, and an average of about 4 pages of parts numbers for each (= 400 pages altogether). At about 20 Kb each to see the print OK (scanned at 150 dpi in black/white mode, that's 8Mb of .gifs; not impossible, but quite a time-consuming task. If a few of you out there with a (reasonably updated) Type 3 parts book would like to share out this job (a bit like the human genome project, really) I'm happy to take on a section or two. What say you? Are there any better ways to do it? Dave. Hi all! I wonder if anyone know if it's possible to scan a microfiche card and get a readable result on a computer screen? (I guess there are special photo equipment involved - the resolution on an average scanner is probably not high enough, but what do I know...) I have got permission to borrow the type 3 microfiche card from my local VW dealer, and I would like to copy its contents into my computer. Any hints? Who's the photo/scanning expert here? /Karl-Olov Sandin -73 squareback …rnskšldsvik, Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
