Tom Cloud mentioned Mercury Villager power pop -out mechanisms...... Tom and all - My other car (family) is a Mercury Villager with the power pop-outs. I use them all the time. When I had a Beetle with the manual pop-outs, I never used them. There is that convenience factor again..... Anyway, the Villager's pop-out mechanism has the motor remotely mounted with a flexible drive shaft to the latch. The Ford WindStar is the same. They are different motors and latches, but both are remotely mounted motors. Chrysler and GM minivans also offer this feature and I am sure the imports are the same. I checked with a Ford dealer awhile ago about buying replacement parts. They only wanted about $120 for a pair of mechanisms and motors. You would still need to round up switches and wire it and stuff. I would expect to pay about half of the $120 for used parts. If anyone (Tom??) beats me to this one, I would be interested in your experiences. This is one conversion I plan to do.
