I have a 73 squareback,not enought amps.every day after work I would have to put my car on charge,twice I had to cut my radio off just to get home,I put two batterys in thinking it would keep my lights from dimming with the music,that didn't work.It was either buy some altenator from some dude in seattle for $160 who claims it is a alternator off a forklift.First I went to a big junk yard for refrence,looking at toyota,volvo and alot of different altenators"I was telling people I was looking for the smallest car altenator",I even went to advanced auto and opened box after box searching,and people told me not to listen to the radio"HA".All that time I had a spare altenator for my wifes 69 bus,I took it to local altenator shop and asked him If it would put out power turning either way of rotation,and it does.I now have a bosch altenator mounted on my squareback.I most definently had to do some chopping at the cooling tin and cooling schroud,and knocked the lip off the altenator with a bench grinder,It is mounted backwards,I have the pulley where the fan would be mounted, if it was in a bug and took a haksaw to the other side.It has a internal regulator so I disconnected the factory one and had to modify the strap because the internal reg. was in the way.Now my lights don't dim when I am jamming.I still have the two batterys hooked up,plugging my car up for charge was a hassle.Since I bought the car I put a radar detector,cd player in the dash-800 watt amp with a 12,two-6/9s,two-6s and two-3s,rci 2950-with 200watt amp Have more$ in my electronics then $ in the car and all the motors I have blown in it.I bought dual 34 webers on christmas eve,from cb performance.I am still waiting on them, two years I have been running Fuel injection,It seems to have always had a studder,I have a 1641 in it right now with a mild cam,the last motor that was in it also a 1641"afraid to put too much displacement on the factory Fuel injection" I had to put lash caps on the rockers,I believe it was a c-35,It ran good at high rpms,I would tach it up to 5000 and it would still want more,one problem with that motor was the idle,if I brought it below 1500 rpm it would want to stall,now that iam going to have carbs I am buying some new cima 94s from a friend,need to try something new,I have a ? what is the biggest motor or biggest amount of displacement one has seen with the factory fuel injection,that runs.I am sure people have tried it,wonder what would happen if you had a 1776 longblock with a factory cam and tried the FI system on it,would it run hot,not run at all,i wouldn't know.
