just in time for the holidays, my car died on me last night (christmas eve) and today on the way home from my parents. last night i was stuck on a desserted back road in 18 degree weather before i got her started again. here's the symptoms: she runs ok when the engine is cold, but when the engine heats up, say 15 or more minutes, the engine barely idles when i stop, the oil light flickers really badly, and when i start out in first it feels like i'm starting out in 2nd or something(in other words, i slam the gas and it barely moves, then it will suddenly kick in and i'll go.). after a while it will get to the point of the engine dying every time i have to stop, which led to me being stranded last night and today. see, the car won't start up again once it stalls, at least not until the engine is completly cool again. on the other hand, at my parents house today, i started the car and shut it off, and restarted it again a few times with no problems. its only when the car is warm, the oil light flickering etc. i also noticed that when i was accelerating or cruising, say in 3rd gear or something, the gas was jerky, it cut in and out a little like there was something blocking it maybe? anyway i checked all hoses, grounds, etc. just to cancel out something simple. everything checked out. one thing i did notice though was that my #1 injector was leaking. i smelled gas when i popped open the engine lid, and when i looked down at my injectors on the right side the tin over the head was wet with gas. so i tightened everything up, and i didn't seem to leak too much after that, although when i got home (or should i say when my car died 4 blocks from my house) it was wet again there, and my gas gauge showed a significant drop in gas during the short drive. no, i am not going to drive my car with a bum injector. could this be what is causing all my problems? stalling, non starting after stalling, gas cutting in and out? i have access to some injectors, but how do i know what is wrong? i can't tell what is leaking, the actual injector or the gaskets around the injector. once i get it out, how do i tell? or should i just replace the injector and gaskets just to be safe? i would just hate to drop the $$ for an injector just to find out i only needed new gaskets... any other suggestions as to what the problem could be? thanks for all the help............ mark. 70 square fi. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
