I do not believe for one second that these are H4 units! The reason, you might ask? Well, all my H4 units (from both bug and square, they are identical) and all other I've seen have "H4" cast in the middle of the lens. The lights in the picture do not have this, so they are probably of the Bilux type, with a 40/45 watt tungsten bulb. Get this guy to get a picture of the bulbs or at least the backside of the units, and I (and many others) can tell you whether or not they are H4 or Bilux. The lens is held on to the chrome ring by clips, and the reflector is held on to a mounting ring inside the chrome ring by rubber grommets and the adjusting screws. If I only had a digi-cam I would have taken a few snaps of the disassembled lights, I have several of them lying around, both H4 and Bilux. All are crap, except the glass lens. >$100!?! Man, I hate e-Bay. You must be really insane to buy them at this price. What you should do, get a pair of universal H4 units from a FLAPS or a VW place like busdepot.com, and replace the sealed beams. They will fit directly into the mounting ring that's already in your type3, and upgrade your wiring with a good relay. Then, you'll have good lights. You don't need to beef up the wiring, but its a good idea if you want better light output. Man, I should assemble all those crappy pieces I have in the basement, I could make a fortune off these!!
