That sounds like the CHT sensor connector - what I had go wrong. It might respond to engine temperature - when hot but open circuit on that sensor, the richer mixture might make it difficult to start, sooty plugs and all. On carbs it can be electromagnetic shut-off connector missing/ dropped off etc. Dave.
