The light flickering at idle when the engine is warm is not a positive sign of bad bearings. The VW instruction book (the one that comes in the glove box waaay back when the car was new!) even mentions that specifically, and ! will quote from my precious nos '64 manual "An occasional flashing of the light with the engine warm and at low speeds does not indicate trouble." pg. 18. I have heard this over the years numerous times and try to point this fact out to people, it can sure make money for some people. So as long as your sender is a decent VW one this will hold true. But if you have an after market sender, figure out if it has different set point.
