RE: [T3] Where have all the (USA) Notchbacks gone?

Notchbacks!? I'd just be happy to see another -Back of ANY kind around these
parts (Chicago)-- although I guess not at this time of year.

I don't own one myself, but I love Notches. The closest one I've ever seen
anywhere near me was in St. Louis a couple of years ago...a very original
'65 Notch, in need of TLC, with WORKING sunroof, everything was there, and
very nice solid body. Original minty green paint too. Came across it by
accident--waaaaaaaay in the back of a VW dealer in the western 'burbs. Asked
around and found out its history (keep in mind it was a sleezoid salesman
telling me this...), that indeed the 30,XXX on the odometer were original
miles (I'm sure they were, but what about the 100,000+ others that you could
see on the pedals, seats, etc.?) Anyway... after going back and test driving
the car for about 10 days straight, I offered what I thought was fairly
decent $3000 (considering the neglect this car was showing--it had A LOT of
potential, though) but the sales guy "talked to the owner of the dealership"
and wouldn't go less than $4500.

Evidently, this VW dealer, while thoroughly into SELLING and screwing buyers
of newer VWs (I was one, on a '97 GLX) actually does have a love for cool
old aircooleds and wasn't all that keen on letting this one go because he
really was planning on restoring it. Bastard.

Anyway, obviously, I still haven't forgotten "my" time with that great
little Notchback. Hope someday I come across something like it again...
