Re: [T3] drop spindles

The stock spindles are forged. This process requires expensive tooling,
and is only suitable for mass production. The forged part is the strongest.
Basically, take a hunk of steel and whomp it into shape, very tight grain
structure, lots of cold working.
The "CB" B*g drop spindles are cast, with a CrMo axle stud pressed in.
Hot metal is poured into a mold and then it cools into the final shape. This
process requires an weaker alloy and/or a porous final molecular structure.
My friend drove over a curb last week and snapped his off, so I got a good
look! I have a feeling the stock spindle would have survived. By the way,
these are $209 a set (no core charge) from CB.
Does anyone know how the "welded drop spindle" is prepared? The risk is
that the weld will fail.
