It sounds like you're only missing the thermostat bracket, that's 
very good news. If you pull down on the threaded rod does it come 
down and then spring back up when you release it? If so, then 
you're probably all set. I have a good bracket.

Having the cooling set up right won't affect the interior heating 
much at all, but it will make a huge improvement in the longevity of 
the engine.
