The original VW paint used on mufflers, damper pipes, heat exchangers etc is much like the Eastwood zinc-rich paint. It's the stuff used on the FI headers too. Some restorations I've seen have wrongly been painted with a gloss version of the colour. It's good inside body panels to hold back rust and works pretty well - I've tried leaving a rusty piece outside, and painted half st$ยปknto the rust. It stayed painted for months in damp British weather. It's not meant as a primer to over-paint though, and will burn off a muffler over a period of time (as the original does, too). Dave.
