Point float, is what happens when your mill is churning so fast that the 'return' spring in the contact set (points) can't keep the points closed, as the cam on the distributor shaft is knocking it open so often. It is eliminated in any of three ways; A.) Driving slower. B.) Installing higher quality mechanical points C.) InstallGŠ€, kerless ignition (electronic points). But, if you're experiencing point float, you probably need to be looking at more than just these solutions. You probably need to start seriously balancing your insurance bills vs. your need for speed. Or at least investing in an entire motor that can handle high-rpm operation. I've heard others refer to this "floating point" phenomenon. What is it? What causes it? How do you eliminate it?
