Jim and I disagree a bit here, I think an oil light at idle indicates an engine at the very end of its life. when the light is on the oil press guage is on the pin and even the hot press is low. This can be because of worn bearings, a hammered out case, improper rebuilding or just end of normal service life. these engines tend to thermal cycle themselves to a greater degree as you accelerate. 40wt will help but dont try to start it if its too cold, let it warm up just a bit more. 20W50 might help even more but these are jsut patches. I must admit though to driving to a show in the Notch which has a worn out spare engine in it at the moment (with flickering light at low idle in the summer) at 85MPH on the highway. it ran great but I dont give it long for this world.
