It ran great the first couple of months I had it, then I started noticeing a small clank siybd , that turned into a large clanking sound. It started back fireing, and spitting out black smoke. Trying to find out whats going on, I took it for a ride around the black, it back fired - spit smoke one last time and died. Had to tow it home. It would not start again. It only will turn over - but won't fire. So a friend of mine told me, it could be the fuel injection, or have an air leak (Vacuum leak ) somewhere so I took a can of fuel injection cleaner, and sprayed the hoses with WD 40. It fired up!!! YEAH!! Ran for a second then died!! That's been it. I live in a small town, so not to many experts here. (And I don't know enough - to weed out the professional bull talkers, from the professional mechanic). Can it be the fuel injection? Is there a test I can try myself to see if it is the fuel injection? Do you recommand taking the fuel injection off and replacing carbs (another friend mentioned that) I'd appreciate any help I can get. I bought if from the original owner who purchased the car in Huntington Beach, CA All original. Daily driver. I took it to a show in Phoenix, AZ the first month I had it, and it won 1st place!!! for the Type 3 Class. It is a 1600 DP Fuel Injected 1971 VW SB Automatic Can you help me?
