I've been told I should run the air through a cold pipe equiped with a drain at its lowest elevation to cool the air and allow for a way to get rid of the condensed moisture. I will be using an inexpensive oil/moisture filter (Campbell Hausfeld) I got at Home Depot, and, if I can get a hold of one in time, a disposible dessicant bulb. But regarding your main point, yes, I'll be using a less than optimum setup for painting a car.
