reply to "Keith Park" <TopNotchResto@worldnet.att.net> <<e stories. I almost went with full flow but then greg had problems and so on... <<if this happened to my Notch it would probably be year>> <<76 in it but Gene Berg is the only one I'll trust an>> I really don't think that this was related to the full flow cover or anything else. It is a genuine Gene Berg Type 3 fulll flow cover. All I think it was related to was my sloppy engine assembly 3 years ago. This motor took me forever to get together because I was't "super" motivated. It would get put together to one point and then sit for a couple of months ( covered w/ plastic of course ) Then I'd get a bug ( no pun ) and get going on it again. I assembled this motor at a friends shop where lots of other things are going on - this spring could've come from anywhere. Heck when I was assembling the throttle linkage one of the springs in the end of the hex bar could've flown out and ended up -who- knows- where. And then when I put it all together I might've said " oh look, the linkage is missing a spring" and gone hunting around the shop for a suitable replacement - never think that a silent timebomb lay waiting in the nether regions of my motor. What kills me is that I drove this thing all last summer and it didn't rear it's ugly head until the startup right now. I'm not real PO'd right now, it was no ones fault but my own and now when I build a motor it's from start to finish in a day or two - believe me. reply tf¢C[ Adney" <jadney@vwtype3.org> << these lifters are lighter, but that the <<snap rings have a habit of coming out at high RPMs and slowly working <<their way back to the sump, through the filter screen and into the <<pump. I have never seen this, but might this be what you have? nope no way -- the majority of the spring is still intact -- it looks like one of those springs that comes out of one of those "clicker" type ball point pens when you take it apart -- if you know what I mean. The spring is a heavier gauge than those pen type springs but wound just as tightly. Seeya - Dan ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
