RE: [T3] Air Cooling Control

You need to pull the engine and tin off to see exactly what you have or
don't have. Then compare that with the photo in the Bentley. It might
be possible to do this with the engine in the car but the tin must come
off or you can't do ANYTHING. It seems to me that the PO removed all
the related thermostatic control system. You need to remove the
cylinder tin to see if the flaps that are in the fan housing are shut or
open. OR, you can run the eninge and put your hand near the bottom of
the cylinders ( where the thermostat would be) and see if you feel any
air. Try reving the engine. Be careful because things heat up quickly
if the air flow IS blocked. This test will tell you if you are or are
not getting airflow to the cylinders/heads, and thus if the the flaps
are shut or open. Try the same on the other side (#3 & #4). IMHO, I
would pull the engine to install this stuff if that is what ultimately
needs to happen. It is much easier and you check how the thermostat
opens and closes the flaps as it heats up. If adjustments are needed,
it is far easier to do when the engine is out of the car.
