well, finally solved my non-idling problem, and feel rather silly: my problem was very simple: at some point, i'd taken out the fuel pump relay and rear window defroster relay to clean up the connections, and -doh- had mixed up two fuel pump relay wires (on the rhs - a twin grey wire, and a blue one, i think [not comparable to anything in Bentley]). the reason i even discovered this was that i'd noted the absence of the fuel pump whirr between clicks, and had taken a relay from a junkyard '69 (not guaranteed to be right, either, i know, but i got lucky) to replace it. so, it probably wasn't overheating or any of the other rubbish i thought. do you think i did any damage by having this mis-wired? and my brakes are working now - 'twas a duff master cylinder, not center line, so don't have that nightmare to face. thanks for all your tips. sonny ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
