>From carbuphobic Mike: > I truly fear my carbs As a senior citizen (read "old coot") who has owned carbureted VWs since 1957, I find it puzzling that people fear and dread carburetors. My notion is that, in the great scheme of things, any system is as good as its owner decides it will be. That means that the owner who learns about his system, maintains it conscientiously, and has pride in it will enjoy years of reliability and peace of mind. A dirty, worn, poorly adjusted, ignored and/or mistreated carburetor is an abomination; a clean, well adusted carburetor will give the owner good service for a long time. But, couldn't we say the same for FI? Or any other part of the vehicle. The permeating philosophy of this group of VW nuts is that we owners take pride in the efficiency of our cars and thus keep them running years longer than those newer Detroit jobbies that are already in the wrecking yards. > Now I'll need to find your sync/fuel mixture adjust technique. > Sounds like it works. Okay, I put two teaspoons of bi-carb in the carbs, poured a little gin in the generator..and...well, I won't tell you what I did to the pistons. Be of good cheer and stout heart, Mike, for you will master your carbs and they will serve you well.
