Well, it's always good to check the condition of all the charging system when you have to replace a component. You could have: Bad ground to the regulator(or battery or generator) Loose connection or broken wire Bad generator Bad battery(shorted or worn out) Bad battery clamps(clean or replace) You can use the procedures in either Bentley or Muir. If you don't have a good meter, there's some ~$20 ones at Radio Shack. They won't do a charging current check, but can do continuity and voltage. I made up some 6' test leads just to test things from front to rear. I ended up running a separate ground wire for my regulator, it grounds through the mounting screws and the area was pretty badly rusted. I also had a failing generator at one time, I had to replace it, new brushes didn't help. No problems since.
