First, replace the electronic points back to the stock style. See how everything works (short and long trips). Remember, change things one at a time! If you still have coil problems then I would guess that you may be getting the wrong coil. I read that the proper Bosch coil has a resister built into it. You may be getting a coil that has an external resister -- something we never had, you will need to buy (or get the correct coil). Someone who knows coils better than I can explain this, but I know without the resistor the coil will give great spark then burn itself up (unless it was designed otherwise, of course).
