Just be careful about spilling gas. I used a similar procedure many years back. I was given a 70 Beetle that had been sitting for 4 years and in order to get all the old gas out I just opened the deck lid and pulled the gas tank off of my motorcycle, set it on top of the deck lid and ran a hose directly to the carb and let gravity do the rest while the fuel pump pumped all the old bad gas out of the gas tank. In case you're wondering all I had to do to get it started was charge the battery and it fired right up! Aren't Volkswagens great cars?
