Before you try to fix it by randomly replacing popular parts, you
should try to narrow down the problem a little bit. The next time it
fails to start, try clamping an inductive timing light around one of
the plug wires and see if it will flash while you're trying to start.
If it does, then you have spark and your ignition system is firing.
Then use the timing light to see if the timing is right. If it is,
then there is no problem with your ignition system.

If you don't have any flash, then you don't have any spark, and you
can stop worrying about FI problems. If you have spark, but it is at
the wrong time, then the ignition system is okay except for the
distributor advance mechanism which is sticking (assuming it was
recently timed correctly.)

If you hae spark at the right time, then the ignition is okay and it
is time to start thinking about a FI problem. Then: Do you actually
hear the pump running? Do you actually have the correct fuel
pressure? Are all your wires actually connected to the right places
and not switched or broken? ....

Break the problem down and approach it logically.
