well, while re-building the distributor it dawned on me that i had a spare 009 waaay back in the garage. so i cleaned the dust off it and stuck it in the engine(wish i hadnt bought that new vacume line) i replaced most of the wires and butchered up some new air filters.. after one small problem(had the distributor in sideways) it started up and drove me around the block.. the power increase is noticible , i like to think it's the 009 but it could also be new plugs, wires, points etc.etc. it idles a little rougher but i'm going to deal with that tomorrow.. right now i'm just thankfull it started .i went ahead and put the spacers back in because i found some foam to go in my old air cleaners. does anyone know of a paper element replacement.. there about 1 & 1/2 inches tall and six inches in diameter?? maybe some lawnmower shop has what i need. brandon p.s. tomorrow i think i'll put my fire extinguisher in the squareback instead of the garage -----Original Message----- From: Weigel, Jason <jweigel@mobi.com> To: 'trainwreck' <trainwreck@pdq.net> Date: Wednesday, October 21, 1998 7:27 PM Subject: RE: [T3] bar-b-que, Texas style |In my experiences the only carbs(stock solex) that use the plastic |spacers is the 67 dual port type.I think it reduces the chance of vapor |lock. I personally ran my single port |dual carbed 1500 notch in San Diego without spacers with no probs at |all. So try it without spacers to see if you vaporlock and to see if it |works. |jason | |> List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
