OK, Toby, You said it, so now you gotta explain: What's the difference between the spark knock- pinging, pinking- you've been describing and pre-ignition? I was under the impression that it was all pre-ignition, and that there are a number of things that cause it (hot spots, carbon, high cr, low octane,early timing, etc) in different conditions, but that, in the end, it's all caused by gas igniting too soon. Leaving out entirely, of course, mechanical knocks like bearings or, "oops, just dropped a nut into the spark plug hole!" Am I putting the wrong words in your mouth, or are you really talking about two different things? The other Toby Erkson, Toby wrote: > > Yep.
