[T3] Cars that fall apart

Good residual values in a car makes it possible for the first owner
to buy a new one.  One of VWs strengths (in the UK at least) is the
high residual value due to the demand for the second-hand car.
Maybe this is in part because the prices for new cars are relatively
higher over here, even compared with other European countries, but
cars that are known to have more problems as they age, drop
dramatically in price.

There is no doubt that the strengths of a 5 year-old VW (and a 25
year old one!) give the image of a make worth owning.  I don't think
built in obsolescence is part of VWs plan to increase sales.
