On a not-really-related note: If your spark advance mechanisms aren't working right, you'll get spark 'knock' (actually predetonation) at odd times. I've had a broken centrifugal advance give me the option of either low-rpm knock or lack of high-rpm power. A stuck one gave the reverse symptoms, but every so often, it'd change just for the fun of it! My favorite was a weak spring that made the car 'hunt' at idle between 1600 and 400 rpm. In past, I never paid too much attention to what was under the point mounting plate, but it's critical! Centrifugal advance can be 15-20 degrees, and it needs to happen at the right rate. That bit of felt under the rotor needs to be kept oiled, too, as it lubes the connection between the point cam and the main dist. shaft... Now if I could just get the point cam off the main shaft to get in there and actually FIX the things... Toby B Jim Adney wrote: > > On 15 Oct 98, at 8:09, James MacNaughton wrote: > > > Righty-o.
