Folks: My apologies for smearing this list with the likes of a Type IV, but it was so neat to see one for sale that I am forced to talk to someone about it. It is in a small village (Nedelisce) just north of the town of Varazdin, Croatia up near the Hungarian border. Saw it today after a beautiful autumn day drive to Varazdin with my wife. The car has been sitting for six years or so. The guy bought it from the Customs Office and resprayed it long ago. It is a 1973 412LE with many spare parts. He parked it after he started having problems with the FI system. The bumpers show a little surface rust, but the pans, fenders, doors, glass, everything is in excellent condition. He has a spare engine, spare (complete) set of struts with (rusty, but beefy) discs. It has a webasto complete with exhaust pipe. He also has a spare. The carpets are all good. The driver seat is a little torn. So is the headliner. The window rubber all looks to be in good shape. The engine has a layer of "preservative" (OK, filth and grease) on it. All dry inside. The trailer is the rear half of another 412. He made the trailer and did an excellent job on it. The rear hatch opens just like on any other Variant. The side windows are still on it, too. So are the 412LE and Variant scripts. The two would look simply astounding if someone is willing to take the time (and $$$) to fix both of them. The FI system has the guy spooked. Mechanics here also shy away from the FI systems as house pets from the vet -- don't want anything to do with them. He is asking 800 DM for the car. I think that one could get the car, the trailer and the parts for less than that. If I lived here permanently, I would already be telling you about the 412LE that I just bought. However, since I am a transient in Croatia, I'll have to pass it up. What a shame. The 412LE and matching trailer would such a cool project. Anyway, hope Greg doesn't bust me for this post.
