My source is: The VW Beetle including the Karmann Ghia; a
collector's guide by Jonathan Wood. London: Motor Racing
Publications, 1983.
Here is the quote:
"...in 1981 it was calculated that only one of the Beetle's
5,115 parts was in common to its 1945 forebear: the rubber bonnet
sealing strip." (page 62)
Given Keith's shrewd answer, I can only guess that he
totally dismantled two VWs and compared each and every pair of
parts. What a guy!
