Hi all, Good news! The short story? Our original "fund drive" of late 1997 will carry vwtype3.org -- and this list -- through to April of 2000. vwtype3.org came into existence a year ago, thanks to donations collected from you folks. Nobody was required to pay to participate in the list or to access anything on the Web site, but it only came into existence because folks pitched in. "From each according to his/her ability, to each according to his/her need," or however that goes. Excellent. Many of you may remember that our presence provider (www.alabanza.com) experienced lots of fits & starts getting the list up & running well, especially the digest version. It wasn't until April of this year that the list was fully functional; because of this, they've shifted our yearly billing cycle to April instead of November. This means that our first year, as far as the accounting is concerned, will be up in April 1999. With $530 still in the vwtype3.org bank account, we're just set to cover the renewal fee for the 4/99 - 4/00 year. I guess we could all consider this a bit of a Type III Solstice / Ramadan / birthday / Christmas / Festivus / Kwanzaa / Hanukkah / Lunar New Year / <fill in the blank> present. :) Regarding the Web site, there's been some interest expressed in a sort of parts bargains page as I described a couple of days ago. Also, I'm waaaaay behind in working with Toby on combining / repackaging / organizing / creating old & new tech resources. I also need to make the big list archive more up-to-date, and, actually, make the archiving completely automatic in the way that the "recent messages on the Web" pages are completely automated. I'm even considering putting the classifieds front end on the main front page of the site. Would like to repackage the scrapbook, completely redo the ineffective events listing, create thoughtful links to off-site resources, etc. etc. etc... First things first, though: I'd better go adjust the points and change the oil in the '69 before it gets *really* cold here. :) Cheers! -Greg Merritt '69 & '71 Squarebacks ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
