Nuts.  Figures.  Oh well, less work for me (oh, and just a reminder for
everybody -- assuming everyone's as dumb as me-- just because the front
calipers are 'self-adjusting' there are *still* rear drums that need to be
adjusted.  Likely the reason my front brakes are dying, that I was too
forgetful to check that my leading edges were barely contacting the drums at
all).

You're kidding me!  Hollow?  Fuel goes in, fuel goes out, but it's just a
little plastic thingy?  That sounds like an American car 'feature' to me,
not VW.
