I *wanted* to reply to Jake Kooser's message, but NT had an intestinal hernia, and pooped, and made Jakes' message unreadable. Even though I can see it fine. Computers. In any event, if I recall, thanks for the congratulations! I was ecstatic to get the foolish thing running! $1200 for a new engine indeed! As it turns out, the guy *was* right about two low cylinders (two at about 105, two just over 140), and the smoke appears to be definitely less than black; but refusing to help me short of installing a new engine is just a bag of crap. I will look into the throttle idle-thingy (I forget what you called it); I saw it briefly in the Muir book (I've misplaced St. Bentley). The plug was a butch-job that I had to put tiny little connectors on myself to get it back together. Speaking of which, does the new brain (ECU) come with the 'wiring harness'? I'd be interested in replacing my brain (with one that thought clearly, and reminded me to pick up coffee mugs before 'Herself' got excited-Irish girls, sheesh!), just to get new connectors. Old brain working or not, if I'm constantly patching, hacking, soldering new connectors on, how well is it working? If I'm trying to convince the SO that the T3 is worth keeping, it's pretty hard to keep smiling while saying that as I run for the soldering gun, *again*. ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
