Welcome! Sorry we missed you on the first pass.

The consensus in the past has been that this can be a useful quick fix, 
but unnecessary if your electrical contacts are clean and tight. 
Maintained properly, 6V systems work just fine.

=> date. ... VW domed pistons. 

T3s were not officially exported to the US until the '66 model year; 
you have a 1500S engine, which I think is a pretty cool unit.
