You are much better off switching to the L dist with everything working correctly. Having the mech adv freeze up is a common problem. I regularly repair these and charge $50 (+ $5 return shipping) for this. Parts, if necessary, are extra, but parts are seldom needed. Installing the L dist will give you the time to get the proper dist repaired.
