There I am, hacking and slashing at the monstrous vines as their razor-sharp stickers pierce my jeans and sweat shirt, clawing my flesh like a jaguar upon a hapless gazelle. All I want is to get to that car over there... Well, it wasn't quite *that* bad but I do have some very pretty scratches on my legs and at one point my left middle finger was completely red with fresh blood. Nice thing about the sharp blackberry vines is that they leave a clean, untattered cut when they poke you. But I prevailed and found more rotting Type Threes than I've ever seen. I scored a center tunnel tray from an automatic (Pacific Italia P2, #2BW 155 311) and a gauge insert (?). The insert was found in an old, rotting Square (pre 70's) in the spot where the clock should've been. It was there looking rusty and pretty, just filling the space so there wasn't just a hole. Part number on it is (VW)315 919 211 and it had a blue, triangular stamp on it that had '87 1.66' inside it. There was a fine mesh as part of it but it literally disintegrated when the rain hit it. Did I mention the rain? It was pretty damn wet. So was I three hours later. I also found a Notch with front rims only on it. The rims are 5-lug, solid with only 5 small rectangular slots spaced between the lugs (but in the same location/position as the stock holes) with a center cap that is secured by 5 screws. The word "EL TIGRE" is on the center cap. The rim fit well on the car from what I could see so at $20/each I bought those as well (I pick them up this Friday). I didn't see one tachometer (damn it!) but did see a red needle gas gauge and speedometer. I have them on reserve but I was wondering what their rarity is. Can anyone tell me if the red needle gauges are rare/special/collectable or is there really nothing special about them? The place has got parts. And they have another yard with 10+ Type IIIs that I didn't get to see. Vdub66 and Sonny: Not one dash pad in good condition. All were cracked or mutilated somehow. Robert Braun and Dave Williams: I didn't see one '71 but there were several cars with the computers still in them so their other yard may have something. C. Wiland et al: You want body pannels, they got 'em in various conditions. I didn't see a light blue door but they did have doors. They also have radios and brackets and other stuff. I saw 3 or 4 Type IVs in good condition. They sure do have a spacious front trunk (MacPherson struts help there) and interior -- too bad they're so damn ugly (sorry T4ers). I did see a trailer hitch just like mine on a Square (ZVW 164 302) but the car was rear-ended so the hitch would need to be straightened about 2". They said about $100 if you pull it -- more if they have to. No seat rails laying about, maybe they have them in their stock. Well, the place is less than 2 hours away for me so I may end up going back later on. They do ship parts via UPS and they told be they haven't had problems with sheet metal getting roughed up so for those who need panels this place could be an option if Jake doesn't have what you need.
