I had the same problem with the new rocker trim I purchased from RMMW...the only think I can recommend is to sand down the trim clips on either side to accomodate the flat lip on the new trim. There are, of course, two drawbacks to this solution: 1) that you may ruin a clip in the process of trying it, and 2) that even if this does work, it might not hols the trim as securely as VW originally intended. I was lucky enough to have a set of decent original trim...actually the trim I purchased from RMMW was unacceptable...the finish is lousy (read: worse than my 25 y/o original trim)...has all these little scratches (like someone hit it with 800 grit sandpaper first)...nothing like the excellent mirror finish on the 6 side molding pieces that came in the set as well. So I have new side molding and original rocker molding installed on my freshly restored fasty. Their web address is http://www.wildhq.demon.co.uk/t3d/ I just got my clips from these guys and my rocker moldings are still in my garage. I have a new set of aluminum moldings from Bill & Steve's in LA and they're uninstallable. The lip on the back side of the molding is flat and wide -- as opposed to folded in -- it simply flattens and deforms the molding when you try to snap it on. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know of an outfit that sells rocker moldings that are actually installable with the original clips?
