My wife and I are restoring a 71 fasty at the moment, and we noticed that the rear wheel wells are rusted through on both sides - these holes were letting water in everytime it was driven in the rain. Don't know if water from there can make it to the front, but it's not hard to check - just have to lift out the rear seat out. To check the rear trunk space part of the wheel well, you'd have to remove the vinyl type stuff, which is glued on - but this may well be worth the effort if you can avoid your wheel wells becoming completely rusted out. Good luck, -Nico '71 fasty -----Original Message----- From: Anton Rivera <rivera@key.net.au> To: type3@vwtype3.org <type3@vwtype3.org> Date: Sunday, November 08, 1998 9:49 PM Subject: [T3] water problems >I have a 1970 fastback which I have been restoring since I bought it in '95. >Unfortunately I have had some problems with leaks in my car almost every time it rains. > I used to have a leak in both driver and passenger sides but was able to stop the leak >in the drivers side by putting silicon around the window rubber, but yet I still have a >leak in the passenger side which has a lot of water pouring out onto the carpet.
