On 1 Nov 98, at 19:37, David Raistrick wrote a long diatribe about his extremely bad experience with a VW dealer service department. While David's experience was extreme, it was probably not unique, nor is this kind of experience limited to dealerships. I'm afraid I've heard many of these kinds of stories, and could tell a few myself. In fact, experiences like these, 29 years ago, led me to start studying how to do my own repairs. I grew tired of paying someone else to do the repairs that I had to re-do later myself to get them done right. In the end, each of us must realize that no one cares as much about our cars (or whatever) as we do. The corollary to this is that if you DO happen to find a good repairman (or woman) of any kind, be good to them and cherish them because they are a very rare commodity. Support them as best you can, but don't ever let down your guard, because their situation and motivation can change on you at any time. I hope David has some luck working out his very valid complaints against his dealership. At least, I believe this is worth a very carefully worded letter to VWoA with a CC to the owner of the dealership.
