Well... Some months ago I tried to figure out how the horn was supposed to be wired on the 1500's as there were no slip rings on the steering wheels. Well my Notch is Horney again!!(Maybe it was Aarons letter but I didn't know it worked on VW's too!) VW has the Axle beam floating in rubber (Gotta be Safe about it!) and electrically isolated too. The horn ring has a wire going down the steering shaft and across the coupler on the steering box, connecting the ring to the steering box (and hence the axle beam). the ground side of the horn then connects to the axle beam and is grounded when the horn button is depressed blowing the horn. Ingenious? maybe, Cheezy.. yep!. What keeps the speedo cable isolated? not sure but it seems to be or maybe when I get it up to 60 the horn will blow! I cant wait to hear the radio with the whole beam floating like that! Anywho... thats how VW did it and thats how I did too, and for now it works. A lister gave me the clue on this but I had to lay my eyes on another virgin 65 before it really clicked. Keith parkkj@crd.ge.com
