Seat Restoration Questions!

Hello All:

I figured this would be a delightful day to redo the front seats on
my 70' Square.
I got the seat out of the car and was very pleased to find no rust on
the guides
or tracks. But I have run into a few obtacles I can't get over. So
anyone who
has done this before, please reply!

  1. I took off all the original seat covers (Cut them off I should say)
and I couldn't
figure out how to get the seat back latch round knob off. I tried
pulling, nope
it's on tight! It's still in good shape, I tried not to mar it.
How do you get this
thing and the plate under it off?

 2. I was going to remove the seatback from the seat bottom. However I
noticed
that the seat back adjustment knob on one side and the round
plastic thingy
on the opposite side appears to be held on with a set screw. This
set screw
doesn't have a slot on both sides for a screwdriver, only on one
side. It is
like a 359 degree circle. Only my smallest blade screwdriver (like
sewing machine
size) will fit in there. But it doesn't have enough torque to turn
the screw. This
it true on both sides. What does one use to remove these
setscrews?

 3. And lastly, I have two buttons on the original seatcovers that are
held in place
by a string that holds on the two more buttons on the opposing
seatback side.
If I cut the string that holds them in, how do I get them threaded
in again? These
are the two trim buttoms that are located on the seatback approx.
where the
headrest joins the rest of the seatback.

Knowing that if I persisted something would end up getting broken or
cracked,
and I was worried that I will break something NLA. (:-<! So I
stopped, put
the seat in my spare bedroom, and realized that someone out there in
Type 3
land has already done this and can shed some light on these problems
for me.

This appears to be a little harder than I was planning on, but I feel
persistance
is the way to go. Boy that horsehair sure creates a lot of dust!

A funny thing here, on the seat bottom between the springs and the
horsehair
there was a Micky Mouse and a Teddy Bear T-shirt stuck in there. So I
assumed
the seat was redone once already. The seatcovers are stamped on the
inside
"Beneke" So somebody must have redone them once already. I have never

heard of the Beneke company before.

I certainly do appreciate any assistance in advance.
