RE: Rebuilt engines

Hunter,

Is this a stock 1600SP or 1600DP engine? FI or carb?

Knowing the condition of a used engine, even one with only 7000 miles on
it, is hard to guage. If you read Muir, he says that 7000 miles is more
than 10% of the life. Regardless if it is rebuilt or not, it is ued...

Do a compression test, see if it overheats, etc.

--- me ----

I would look at the value of the engine. Are the heat exchangers good?
Is the muffler good? Is the carb/FI proper?

It comes down to -- what if it was a bad engine? How much are you
considering the engine to be the cost of the car you are considering?
How much is it to replace?

When looking at a ACVW to purchase, solid body (no rust) has a lot more
value than a perfect engine. Engines are pretty easy to replace on your
own, and not too expensive. Again, value the external bits like FI/Carb
and heat exchangers -- those you keep or replace (if rusted out) if the
engine doesn't last...

Lets say that you are looking at a car. The person says that the engine
was
rebuilt 7K ago. How can you find out more about the quality of the
engine?
Are there certain things that should alarm someone to a badly rebuilt
engine?
