The pump covers with the spin-on filter attachment will not work on the Type III -- we've just got too much stuff hangin' off our butts. I know that Gene Berg Ent. doesn't recommend them, I think one reason is because the oil passages are small and reduce the oil pressure. Besides, they are on their sides and that makes for a messy filter change ;) For those with a Type I: Doesn't the spin on filter rest in the engine cooling air exhaust? Stick with the stock oil pump. In talking with my engine builder and one of the technicians at Gene Berg Ent. both said the stock Type III pump is quite adequate, which is one reason why the (late model) cases have the oil pressure relief plunger in the oiling system. My big engine uses the stock oil pump with no worries!
