Nothing is wrong with them as they do the job they were engineered to. Key point, "they do the job they were engineered to". However, once you fiddle with the engine and make it big, say 2003cc with 8:1 compression, things tend to get a little warmer and the stock cooling system, which includes the oil cooler, cannot remove the excess heat fast enough. One fix is to increase the cooling of the oil as it is fairly easy. Of course, keeping compression down to stock levels and not increasing the volume of the engine would do the same thing, you just wouldn't have the desired power ;) Toby Erkson air_cooled_nut@pobox.com <-- Please use this address for email '72 VW Squareback 1.6L bored and stroked to 2.0L '75 Porsche 914 1.8L, ORPCA member Portland, Oregon, http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/8501/ >-----Original Message----- What is wrong >with the stock oil coolers?
