Re: Test lamp; Torsion bar parts

Hunter=> instructions on making a test lamp for timing...the john muir
      => isn't very specific...

On the second page of Chapter IV (Tools and Spare Parts) there's a
picture of the test lamp assembly. If that's not specific enough for
you, I dunno how to help.

SteveB=> My front upper torsion bar has a lot of play in it.

I had the same idea the first time I had a beam off the car and found
that the upper arms would rotate all the way over. The bar in the upper
tube is not a torsion bar per se -- it's your anti-sway bar. It just
keeps the upper arms in sync. Not a problem.

=> no one ever discusses replacing any parts, just fixing-up and
=> making-do with whats there. Is this because no parts are available?

The parts that inevitably need periodic replacing (ball joints,
bearings, tie rod ends, steering donut, etc.) are all relatively easily
available. Finding a fresh T3 steering box can be tricky, but the rest
of the front end is very robust and will outlive the car, barring some
pretty enthusiastic curb-checking.
