Dash Pad Replacements - 2 reviews

Hello all!

Someone (Allan) asked me to send a review when I received my dash pad
replacement...I first ordered one from RMMW but didn't notice in the text
that it was a hard plastic cover for your existing dash. The piece
arrived, and I must say that for a cover its rather good quality. The kit
was like $65 and included the black ABS cover (the grain of which resembles
the original grain, but is not exact) and a tube of silicone
sealant/adhesive. This cover would be good for people who have dry or only
slightly cracked dashes...mine was a little worse, however, and I was
looking for a replacement dash, not just a cover. BTW, this cover does not
have the speaker grille/holes (a good point, IMO)...on the bad side, the
cut outs for the gauges only cover the top of the gauge (not full circle
openings, just the top semi-circle)...also, you have to drill holes for the
grab handle. So to conclude, its a good quality cover...now if I'd just
have read the ad more closely :-/ BTW, I'm selling this one (as I needed
the entire dash)...preferably to comeone in the DC/VA/MD area, but I'll
entertain other offers. I'd be looking for like $50, or type III parts.

The second one I ordered was from So Cal Imports...this is a full dash like
you'd expect...the same shape as the original, covering all sections of the
gauges, etc. that the original does. I was a little bummed to see the
rectangular speaker grille cut-outs (as opposed to the holes that my
original dash had) used for later model type IIIs...the dash pad is the
same consistency as the original...kinda soft, but resilient. It also
appears to have some metal reinforcements inside...anyway, this is the one
I'll be using, so I'll post an installation report at a later date. The
grain is very similar to that of the original...more close than the RMMW
cover. I will do a little trimming, though, as there are extraneous thin
pieces still attached along the mold seals. The total cost for this item
was like $89...that includes $12 for shipping and a $3 handling charge. I
probably could have found it cheaper elsewhere, but I've dealt with So Cal
before and although their shipping is generally kinda delayed, I've never
had any problems with them.

Well, hopefully someone can make use of this report when buying their next
dash/dash pad. Good luck!
