Actually there is a bulb. 795 or 796 bulb. One is a newer version of the
other, I don't remember which. Also there's the 796X which has the filament
that runs parallel with the bulb (for an up right application) while the
other ones have the filament running horizontally, like a normal 1156. I
work for the police dept. as a mechanic...these are the bulbs they use in
their rotator style light bars. They are 50W, Halogen and will fit into your
back up lights and rear turn signals without modification...I've got them in
my car...haven't had a problem with fuses popping or anything...backing up is
like having headlights back there (figure standard sealed halogen headlight
is average 55W on high) and the rear turn signals are about blinding.
DO NOT use these bulbs on something that is plastic and going to be on
for a long period of time...the lense will melt...trust me. Also...DO NOT
buy the "brighter reverse lights" kit from Pep Boys, etc. They have a
plastic kind of base that melts...they are halogen and 50W but cheaply
made...they kind of scare me...(thinking fire)...the 795's are all metal.

hope somebody can use this :)
