Tom,
The first thing I did was clean the pad (it had been in a junked car
out in a field). Then I just rubbed it in on with my fingers, making
sure to get in all the nooks and crannys. I barely used any and was
gentle on the speaker grill, yet it turned out the same. I let it sit
for 2-3 days, though I don't know if this matters. I wiped off the
excess with paper towels, and then washed with a soft soapy sponge. In
the speaker grill holes (early dash) I had to use a nail brush to get
out the excess goo. When finished it has a "wet" look, but it's dry and
no slime. I've not tried this with anything else yet, but I don't see
why it wouldn't work with all vinyl and rubber.

P.S. I did this with the pad out of the car, but you have to be gentle
as it not supported properly.
