If you can't spend a TENTH of that and get a good solid, comfortable, and attractive car out of the deal, then I give up. I mean, you would be very likely to find a complete, straight, rust-free car like yours if you had $4000 to spend on it. Sorry -- I'm just thoroughly shocked by that quote. I hope they don't get a lot of takers. In the 58-64 Chevy club I was it, I knew quite a few folks that had more than $40k in their early Vettes and Imapalas, but somehow that's a little easier to understand (for me). A cherry '59 Corvette could actually be sold for that much. A cherry 60's model VW? Has anybody on the list spent anything like that on a VW? Do you know anybody who's sold a type3 or splitty bus for more than $10K? $30K? I am hoping that I can invest mayby $4000.00 over the next year or so and end up with a squareback that looks like the one on the back of the Bill Fisher book, handles like a new VW, and feels and smells comfy to drive and ride in :-) Unfortunately I have handling problems that I don't quite have diagnosed yet, the interior is quite rough but servicable, the electrical system is tired and I really want to do a 12v conversion *completely* and *correctly*, the car is hard to start and has developed exhaust leaks, the lower windshield sill is totally rusted out, a previous owner wrecked the front and the front body repair is passable but needs work, and the paint is fading with little rusticles beginning to form here and there. But if I can't believe that it can all be put right and a very clean car emerge for about $4000 or maybe a little more, I may have to force myself to give up. "35K to start. we'll go up from there. $15K deposit before we'll talk to you" Sorry, but I'd really rather have the couple of passat wagons I could by with that money if I had it. I really, really would. -- g-r-a-t-e-f-u-l-l-y---[ email:<fishbowl@conservatory.com> ]---l-i-v-i-n-g d-e-a-d-i-c-a-t-e-d---[ http://www.conservatory.com/ ]-----l-i-g-h-t You worry too much about your job.
